Safe Patient Care

Under the Safe Patient Care (Nurse to Patient and Midwife to Patient Ratios) Act 2015 and Safe Patient Care (Nurse to Patient and Midwife to Patient Ratios) Amendment Act 2019, as a Level 4 public hospital and public aged residential care service under the Victorian Health Services Act 1988, Hesse Rural Health has obligations to publish applicable information in relation to Mixed Ward nursing ratios for each 6 month period.

Total number of occupied beds available is 4 (Acute) and 24 (Public High Level Residential Aged Care).

The expected number for this Mixed Ward calculation in the following 6 months (based on previous 12 months data and any likely factors ) is 25 (1 x Acute and 24 Public High Level Residential Aged Care).

In compliance with the Safe Patient Care (Nurse to Patient and Midwife to Patient Ratios) Amendment Act 2019, we roster nurses according to the following:

  • Morning shift is 1 nurse: 6 patients plus one nurse in charge
  • Afternoon shift is 1 nurse: 6 patients plus one nurse in charge
